Company Bio

Freddie Mac was chartered by Congress in 1970 with a public mission to stabilize the nation’s residential mortgage markets and expand opportunities for homeownership and affordable rental housing. Its statutory mission is to provide liquidity, stability, and affordability to the U.S. housing market. Freddie Mac participates in the secondary mortgage market by purchasing mortgage loans and mortgage-related securities for investment and by issuing guaranteed mortgage-related securities, principally those called PCs. The secondary mortgage market consists of institutions engaged in buying and selling mortgages in the form of whole loans (i.e., mortgages that have not been securitized) and mortgage-related securities. It does not lend money directly to homeowners. Freddie Mac is operating under a conservatorship that began on September 6, 2008, conducting business under the direction of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA).

Statement of Diversity

Freddie Mac values diversity because it’s smart business. The organization’s focus on diversity and inclusion creates opportunities — for its workforce, its suppliers, and for renters and homeowners in the communities it serves. Different perspectives make it a stronger company, drive innovation, and support its efforts to make home possible for America’s families. “A strong diversity program helps Freddie Mac’s business and allows us to more effectively meet the needs of all the communities we serve,” said CEO Donald H. Layton.
